Massive Monday boasts record breaking number of new opportunities for candidates
Massive Monday, the first working Monday of the New Year, boasted record breaking numbers of new jobseekers and employment opportunities for 2015 according to reed.co.uk.
There were 235,981 applications and 17,730 new candidate registrations on Massive Monday, with many employees reconsidering their career options.
The number of job applications received surged by 31% compared with the same Monday in January last year.
Reed.co.uk assisted in the Massive Monday applications boost by adding 11,599 jobs which signified the highest recorded amount of roles added in a single day since 2008. The busiest period was between 11:00am – 12:00pm and accounted for over 64,000 visits.
James Reed, the Chairman of Reed.co.uk believes that “with growing confidence in the market” and the figures “2015 looks set to be a bumper year of new opportunities”.
“Massive Monday was even bigger this year, with more applications and job opportunities live on reed.co.uk than ever before. Many of us start January eager to make a fresh start and for lots of people, that means finding a new job,” he added.
The highest growth in applications year-on-year came from Transport and Logistics, with a 500% increase on 2014. Manufacturing followed closely behind with a 400% increase, while secretarial and PA positions rose by 253% from last year.
The latest reed.co.uk Job Index report is 33% higher than a year ago and currently stands at 228.
In addition, the figures also reveal the top year-on-year growth sectors for jobs advertised are Energy (77.7%), Hospitality and Catering (63.3%) and Social Care (60.1%). The Energy (9.2%) and Engineering (6.5%) sectors have seen the most growth in job vacancies month-on-month.
